Icewater Employees Celebrate the Return of Offshore Northern Cod

Arnold’s Cove, NL

Employees of Icewater Seafoods gathered today to celebrate a milestone more than three decades in the making—the return of offshore Northern Cod production following the end of the 32-year moratorium.

The resumption of offshore cod harvesting marks a new chapter for the company, enabling the return of year-round cod production and processing of 100% Canadian Northern Cod at its Arnold’s Cove facility.

To commemorate the occasion, every employee received a special-edition Icewater Seafoods sweatshirt featuring the message “For 32 Years, We Believed” alongside a codfish graphic on the front, and “2025 – The Return of Year-Round Northern Cod Production” on the back.

Addressing employees, President and CEO Alberto Wareham thanked the Icewater team and the community of Arnold’s Cove for their unwavering support and commitment throughout the moratorium. He noted that Icewater's ability to maintain its expertise in cod processing and preserve relationships with premium global markets positions the company—and the broader Northern Cod industry—for success as the fishery re-emerges.

“The expertise, reputation, and market access we have maintained over the past three decades will create immediate benefits throughout the Northern Cod value chain, including harvesters, processors, and coastal communities,” said Wareham.
